Dear Beloved Missionaries,
In the middle of the storms that may be developing and that you’re going through both inside and outside of you, I pray that you find comfort as you read this letter. I acknowledge the difficulties and trials you may be going through as a young missionary. Although the route you have chosen is not simple, it is one that is full of love, faith, and purpose.
In moments of doubt and brokenness, it is important to remember why you chose this journey in the first place. Always go back to your “why,” they say. Reflect on the calling you felt deep within your soul the first time you recognized it—the burning desire to serve others and to spread the love of God. Hold onto that flame, no matter how dim it may seem right now, for it is the light that will guide you through the darkness.
It is okay to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or even lost at times. Being a missionary does not make you immune to the struggles of life; if anything, it may intensify them. But remember that you are not alone. You are part of a community bound together by faith, hope, and love. Reach out to your fellow missionaries, to your brothers and sisters, and to your coordinators. Share your burdens and allow others to lift you up in prayer and support.
In your weakness, you may find strength. For it is often in our moments of weakness that we become most reliant on God’s grace. Surrender your fears, your doubts, and your pain to Him, and trust that He will carry you through. Lean into prayer, into scripture, and into the sacraments. Allow God to heal your wounds and renew your spirit.
Know that the work you are doing, no matter how big or small it may seem, is making a difference in the lives of others. Your acts of kindness, your words of encouragement, your prayers, even your mere presence—they all have the power to transform hearts and bring about God’s kingdom here on earth.
Thank you for choosing to be more like Him. Thank you for your love for others, even though it isn’t always reciprocated. Thank you for continuing the mission of “Making all youth know Christ.”
Take each day one step at a time, one prayer at a time, and one act of love at a time. And never forget that you are loved beyond measure by the One who called you to this mission. May His peace, His joy, and His strength be with you always.
