The book Frankly Speaking was authored by Tito Frank Padilla, wherein, he shared with us his personal experiences and stories, and spiritual insights. The author highlighted that the book is not an autobiography, rather, it shares meaningful moments he had as a Christian leader, missionary, husband, and most importantly, servant of God. Through his personal stories, Tito Frank reveals how God worked in his life despite his weaknesses and shortcomings. The different stories from the same person proves that God can use anyone, even the most unlikely ones, to accomplish His mission.
The book is divided into several sections showcasing different aspects of Tito Frank’s life and his journey in faith. One of the messages that this book is trying to tell is how God’s hand has guided the author’s life. Tito Frank shares that even though he had the privilege, such as education from Harvard, and high professional opportunities, he only found his success when he surrendered and trusted God’s plan. The author emphasizes that a person’s plans alone are not enough and that everything depends on God’s will and His blessings.
Another important message in the book is missionary work. Tito Frank mentioned numerous experiences from his travels and missions in different parts of the country and the world. Through these stories, he highlights the joys and the challenges of serving the Lord, or in his words, “…ups and downs” (37). He expressed that missionary work is far from easy; it requires sacrifice, humility, and faith. However, he also shows that serving others and spreading the message of Christ is one of the most fulfilling experiences a Christian can attain.
The book touches the importance of prayer, faith, and living a life centered in Christ. Tito Frank says that his life revolves around God and that his goal is to serve God wholeheartedly, he even tried to lessen his working hours so he can serve the Lord. He reflects on the idea of praying constantly and living every moment making sure that his decisions align to God’s words, showing how a deep relationship with God can shape one’s entire life.
Tito Frank also brought up the reality of death and the importance of preparing for the eternal life. Tito Frank reminds the readers that life is temporary and that us, Christians, should strive to live in a way that honors God. This encourages believers to grow in holiness and remain faithful in their mission as disciples of Christ.
One of the most meaningful lessons I learned from Frankly Speaking is that God works on everyone. We may not see it in the moment, but looking back to every event in our lives, you will realize that God was there with us. “From a man of the world to a man of the Lord,” (17) this line tells us that transformation is always possible. Our faith must be firmly grounded in Christ for us to grow spiritually.
As a Missionary Families of Christ Youth member, this book encourages me to strengthen my relationship with God and to be committed to living out my faith. Furthermore, the book challenges me to take missionary work seriously; that every Christian is called to serve Christ with others.
I also learned the importance of humility. Tito Frank openly admits his weaknesses and acknowledges that everything he has achieved is because of God’s grace. This changed my perspective; that my abilities are gifts from God, and I must use it to serve others and glorify Him.
The book shares raw and transparent life lessons and spiritual journey of Tito Frank Padilla. Through personal stories, reflections, and experiences in mission work. He shared the importance of faith, humility, prayer, and service. It reminds everyone that God can transform anyone and use them for His greater purpose. Most importantly, for young Christians, and MFC Youth members, the book serves as a reminder that our faith should be deeply rooted in Christ and continually strengthened through our actions and commitment to God’s mission.
Frankly Speaking encourages readers to trust in God, live a life of holiness, and courageously respond to the call to serve Him.
