Last year, I became a dad. And my life was completely changed! I became closer to my wife, I became close to my family and I never thought that being a dad would bring me closer to God. Everyday, as I take care of our son, I pray and think of how God is being faithful to me in my “Father time” moments. I’d like to share some reflections I got for the past 4 months.

When our son arrived in our family, my wife and I would always talk about what was best for him, from the little things to the big things. From the choice of diaper, sleeping position, what clothes to wear and even what kind of music to play and what food we are going to eat. It always boils down to what is best for Lucho, our son. I noticed that something’s changed. From what food to order, to what’s best for Lucho. From where to go to where to go with Lucho. From what movie to watch next to what time Lucho can sleep. Our world stopped and revolved around Lucho. I realized that a father will always look after the good of His son. So is the Lord. He will always look after our own good. His plan for us is to give us a future full of hope (Jer 29:11). God will always desire for us to be better and to experience good things in life. He will always be after our own good, what’s best for us.

Even before Lucho came, we prepared everything for him. Months before his birth, we bought a crib, clothes, baby towels and even our relatives gave gifts for him. As parents, we made sure that we have everything ready even before our son asks for what he needed. I realized that a father will always provide for the needs of his son. We have a God who provides. And He sees ahead, that’s why he anticipates everything and prepares everything we need before we even ask for them. Do you still remember the moments when God provided for you and your family? When are the times that you have no one else to go to, and then you prayed and suddenly, God answered your prayer and help arrived? This is our God. He provides for us and His timing is always perfect.

Taking care of a newborn is very important and delicate. You have to fix your eyes on him all the time. You can’t leave him for a moment because he might fall from the bed or be covered with a blanket. You really have to look after him 24/7. That’s why I realized that a father can’t take his eyes off his son. God can’t take his eyes off of us. Because he looks after us, guards us and protects us. But more than that, he can’t take His eyes off of us because He loves us so much.

Upon reflecting on all of these, I realize that God, our father, is just like any other dad who loves and provides for his children. We are blessed because our God provides for us, looks after our own good and gazes us with love. God is faithful and true. This God, just like me, is a father who loves His children so much. Our God is our Father who looks after us – His children. He is our go-to guy! He is the best dad in the world.
