We are all human. We all have this desire to be seen and to be acknowledged. I guess when you know that you are good at something, you want to be recognized for it. May it be giving a talk, being the center of the blocking in a dance number, or when you desire an award for something. We all want to be seen. Perhaps because being seen or being acknowledged is another way we can feel that we are loved.
This is a good desire but sometimes it is not given to us and because of our pride, we don’t know how to address this without sounding so needy. The moment we are deprived of our desire, our immediate response is to feel insecure. This insecurity will lead us to compare ourselves to other people thinking that we are not good enough or something is lacking in us. We beat ourselves up over our own weaknesses. Instead of being kind to ourselves, we became harsh. Our insecurities lead us to a moment of isolation and we let ourselves be a subject of temptation for our enemies. Evil uses these weaknesses to make us think that we are not loved. Yet the Lord wants us to think otherwise. The truth is, God chooses us everyday. He sees us because He knows us. More so, He loves us. Being seen by the Father is the sweetest compared to any form of acknowledgment that we will get here on earth. Everytime you feel sad because you think that no one notices you, here are three things that might help you:
First, it humbles you. Sometimes, our pride gets in the way and it tweaks our intention of serving Him. “Am I doing this because of my love for God? Or am I doing this because I want to show the world what I can do?” Everything that we will do should be a response of love, whether backstage or on stage, you will give your all because you want to love Him back.
Second, it makes you see what is necessary. While affirmation is important to us, most of the time, it should not affect the quality of your service. What’s important is that we live a life worthy of the call that we have received. (Ephesians 4:1) Still give your yes to Him, excellently.
Lastly, when you feel like you’re not being chosen, it redirects your vision towards Christ. “Kita ng Diyos ang lahat.” He sees everything, your efforts, your love, and your heart. Hold on to that. So we must fix our gaze on Him too. This is enough reason to pursue holiness.
Whenever you feel like you are being disregarded by every people around you, remember John 15:16 and imagine God telling you, “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.”
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
