When I was younger, one of my favorite toys is the “Magic Slate”. It’s a rectangular shaped drawing pad. On top of the drawing pad is a plastic cover that if you lift up will magically erase everything that you have drawn, thus giving you a clean “slate” to draw on again. I loved it because if I ever make mistakes, I can just lift the plastic cover up and magic happens! My drawing slate is clean again.
What the “Magic Slate” does to my drawing is what Confession does to your soul. It reconciles us back to God. Confession brings us closer to God and restores our relationship with God that was tainted by sin, provided that we truly repent from it. That’s what I did today. I went to confession. Boy, it was a great experience! I felt the grace and mercy of God touching my heart and saying “See? I make all things new.” It is a great way to start the year – starting it with a clean slate!
