God sends us friends to be our firm support in the whirlpool of struggle. In the company of friends we will find strength to attain our sublime ideal.” -St Maximilian Kolbe

I am known to be an extrovert who can easily form friendships with the people around me. Talking to people who I just met is something that isn’t difficult for me to do. It excites me and gives me unexplainable energy. Through the years, I formed a lot of friendships, but as I reflected on my life, I questioned myself and thought: have I been a good friend?

Have I been a good friend? Am I someone who has been a firm support to my friends? Am I a friend who gives comfort? Am I the kind of friend who leads my friends to Jesus? These are just a few questions that popped up in my mind as I reflected on my relationships with the people around me. Serving in MFC Youth for almost five years allowed me to form friendships with people I can easily relate with when it comes to serving the Lord. I was really fond of conducting and attending community activities that really helped me and the people with me in this service have a deeper relationship with the Lord. But as I looked back, I realized that I also have friends outside the community who need to know Jesus more.

It pierced my heart to discover that I have friends who have been suffering and looking for help, but I wasn’t there when they needed a friend to support and comfort them. This made me realize that I also needed to make an effort in being attentive to my friends outside the community. It stated in our mission “To Make All Youth Know Christ.” We must make Christ known to all and not just to our circle of friends here in the community. Let us make all youth know Christ by being a good friend, a good friend to all. A friend that can be a firm support, a friend that gives comfort, and a friend that will lead his/her friends to Jesus.

It pierced my heart to discover that I have friends who have been suffering and looking for help, but I wasn’t there when they needed a friend to support and comfort them. This made me realize that I also needed to make an effort in being attentive to my friends outside the community.
