In MV Speaks, Sharing

Late this year, I got sick and felt weak. I didn’t expect that it would happen because I thought that I was healthy and strong until that day happened. I woke up one morning with a headache and body aches. I had no appetite and I just wanted to rest all day long. On that same day, we also found out that the cause of my sickness was not eating properly at the right time, taking a bath after playing basketball and not drinking enough glasses of water. When I was recovering while on bed rest, my father talked to me and said,  “That’s what happened to you because you did not listen to us and obey. You just followed what you wanted and didn’t  believe in us”.  When my father said those words, I realized that he was right. At that moment, it was as if I could hear God, too, then suddenly, I cried because I felt that was also what God wanted to tell me.

Oftentimes, I would become too confident that everything is alright but there really comes a point that God will allow unforeseen situations to happen in my life. A situation that would make me realize that I need to be prepared and be mindful of the things that are to come. As I was reflecting on God’s message to me, I came to realize three things. First, it is so important that we must listen and obey the Lord because the world now is too noisy. There are many things around us that can possibly make us believe and be carried away by what is normal and routine. As we fulfill our mission and service to the Lord, it is our daily commitment to really listen to Him and obey what we hear. Second, we need to pay attention to His voice and allow Him to speak to us in many different ways. Lastly, we need to be desiring more of what the Lord wants for us. Before we make a decision, we must bring it to Him first, for us to know if it could be for our good or not.

Humans as we are, we cannot deny the fact that sometimes the ears of our hearts fail to recognize God’s voice. We are easily tempted to do things on our own and begin to forget what the Lord really wants us to do. Instances like this will end in frustration, discouragement and dissatisfaction. It may lead us down the wrong path.  That’s why it’s important to listen to God and at the same time we need an obedient heart to fully trust Him. In order for us not to lose in the path we are treading, we need to continually and constantly ask God’s grace and pray that we may never get tired of listening and obeying His will.
