“The human heart is on a continuous quest for happiness” (Matthew Kelly, Rediscover Catholicism)
I read this line from one of my favorite book and it hit me. Do you think it’s true? I think it is. I know it!
Do you want to be happy? I do. I know you do. The truth is we all long for happiness in life. We all want to be happy but oftentimes we look for it in material things or in virtual relationships. We always want the best gadgets out there. We always want to be up to date with the fashion trends. We crave for attention. Most of the time, this is where our insecurities set in. And leads us to some questions:
“Am I cool enough?”
“Am I beautiful enough?”
“What is wrong with me?
At the end of the day, we always long for more! We just can’t get enough. Ultimately, it would only lead to disappointments. I took up economics as my major in college and if I’ll be asked to define it I’d say that it is “the allocation of limited resources to the unlimited needs and wants of consumers”.
We can’t find lasting happiness in the mundane things. The truth is, we are looking for happiness in the wrong place. We try and go out and “find love in a hopeless place” (ala Rihanna). If we want to find true and lasting happiness, we need to look for it from someone greater, bigger, and stronger!
Our faith teaches us that God has planted a desire in our hearts for Him. At the end of the day, we find happiness in Jesus. Because a relationship with Him will lead to the best life ever. He alone can suffice for all our needs!
And so we ask ourselves first: What do we really long for in life?
We surrender the desires of our hearts to Jesus. It’s not about us, but all about Him! In Him alone can we find true and lasting happiness!
